Colon, Bladder, and Hospital . . . Again

Mike’s in the hospital. Again. We’re weary. Things are weird. God is still good. Read on to be confused along with us.

What Brought Us Here

Over the weekend, Mike started having symptoms of another small bowel obstruction. Since we’re familiar with this process, he attempted to self-treat at home, hoping some bowel rest would bring resolution on its own. Obviously since we’re here, that didn’t happen. We came to the ER Saturday evening.

Everything was pretty much the same as past visits initially. Fluids, antibiotics, pain management, bowel rest, CT scan to rule out the need for surgical intervention. Thankfully, we got to it this time earlier than previous visits and he had inflammation throughout his intestines, but it hadn’t yet gotten to the point of an obstruction. It was enough to earn him an admission for some support with antibiotics, electrolytes, and fluids.

New Developments This Time

Cultures showed a bacterial infection in his colon causing this stay at the best resort in town. In addition, this time new information has developed compared to past CT scans. According to this most recent scan, it appears that his troublesome rear abdominal mass has grown a bit since the beginning of June. That’s very confusing information considering the news from Dr. Einhorn last week. The mass is causing some pressure on his bladder, which is causing him to have some new back pain, and causing his kidney markers to be elevated.

This has all earned him a longer stay than we had hoped. Tomorrow, he will be having some stents placed in his urinary tract to open the flow from the obstruction. He is here until the kidney markers go back to normal after the procedure and until the symptoms from his bacterial infection improve, however long that takes.

How You Can Pray

Please pray for our emotional health. This roller coaster is the most wild one we’ve ever ridden and we would like to go back to the more leisurely rides instead—like a nice, gentle scenic sky wheel or some antique cars, please! Please pray for physical healing. We still believe God is good, the impossible is possible with him, and he loves us deeply. This is just another obstacle we must face for our greatest good and for his glory and renown. We really do believe God can fully restore Mike to complete health and we’re still believing for that outcome. But, like the three Hebrew men in the fire, even if he doesn’t he is still good and he is always God.

One Final Note: The site we originally shared updates on has closed permanently. This is very sad because all that history is lost. I will be doing all updates from this website going forward.
