My Soul Cries for Hope

Difficult times lie ahead, they say
But what about this difficult day?

I try to see the goodness of God
In the land of the living
But it seems everyone is living
But me

My soul cries for hope
Yet I find only
Discouragement, disappointment, and sorrow
I want to hope again

My God is a God of hope and joy
Yet his people bring gloom and despair

Where is your hope, O children of the Most High?
Where is your rest, O citizen of the Kingdom?
Why do you claw for power and position?

Greed and power lust are not for the church
Yet her leaders have baptized power brokerage in Scripture
And called it holy

Woe, woe to those
Who take the world systems of evil
And call them good

God says "I am not mocked"
Yet the shepherds of the assembly
Wield their power as a divine right

God's economy is upside down
Yet his shepherds
Rule from atop their self-made thrones

God says "feed  my sheep"
Yet his shepherds
Reject and oppress the poor

"Woke" is a curse word to them
But injustice is embraced

God loves the poor
The marginalized
The broken-hearted
God is near to them
He stands ready to bind the wounds
Inflicted by the self-appointed shepherds

Look for hope, O my soul
These men are not God's mouthpiece
He is disgusted
He will repay

Hope is on the horizon
Look up, O child of the King!

These earthly, self-made
Prophets, priests, and kings
Are seen by the One True King
He reigns true and vengeance is his

Look up, O child of the King
For the true Kingdom awaits!
